  Live plants make a good addition to an aquarium for many reasons. They produce oxygen while absorbing the carbon dioxide and ammonia that your fish create. The addition of plants help mimic the natural eco system which your fish would normally be in and make for a healthier environment.

They reduce stress in fish because they provide shelter and protection, it’s important for them to have these as it keeps their immune system stronger and thus makes them less susceptible to bacterial diseases.

They compete with algae for nutrients and therefore can help reduce the build up of algae.

When you are first adding plants to you aquarium it is best to start with hardy species. Once the environment is more stable you can introduce more sensitive plants.
